We use North American NSFW standards as our baseline, aligned with payment-processor requirements and common online-safety policies. These guidelines help creators publish freely while ensuring the platform remains safe, legal, and compliant. When in doubt, tag content conservatively.
What "NSFW", "Mature," and "Sensitivities" Mean on VGen
NSFW (Not Safe for Work): Content that would generally be inappropriate to view in public or professional environments due to sexual or non-sexual nudity (partial or full), or other sexually suggestive themes.
Mature (18+) content: Content that is only suitable to be viewed by an 18+ audience.
Sensitivities: Content involving graphic violence, severe distress, dangerous physical / mental harm, and other considerations for those with personal conditions and sensory sensitivities.
Sensitive Content Tags
VGen offers a range of sensitive content tags that artists can apply to their services, portfolio showcases, VSONA, and shop products. Here's what each one means:
For users over 18, NSFW content is visible by default but all Mature (18+) content will be blurred unless otherwise set.
NSFW
- Revealing clothes (non-sexual): Artwork containing revealing outfit on any character (including but not limited to exposed hips, very low / very high cut tops, bikinis, bunny suits, fantasy armour, male nipples) that is not posed nor exaggerated to be sexually suggestive in any way (ie. no heavy leaning nor overflowing cleavage, no flirty facial expression, no sexual theme nor context).
- Artistic nudity (non-sexual): Contains nudity for the sake of non-sexual artistic expression without any sexually suggestive poses, themes, or context (e.g., figure studies, character sheets, classical sculptures).
- Sexually suggestive (18+): Non-revealing OR revealing clothes (defined above) with sexual themes or context implied through poses, dialogue, exaggerations, imagery, implied acts, scenery, or other expressions.
- Sexual nudity (18+): Full nudity combined with sexually suggestive or explicit elements (e.g., sexual poses, sex acts).
Sensitivities
- Flashing / Epilepsy warning: Strobe effects, rapid flashing, or other photosensitive triggers.
- Blood / gore: Graphic injuries, excessive blood, exposed organs, or extreme gore (note that small blood splatters do not need to be tagged, ie. drop of blood on vampire fang).
- Violence: Violent themes, realistic depictions of death, or severe harm.
- Other: Anything that doesn't fit the above but still warrants a heads-up. You can specify an optional custom label.
Content that must always be tagged
Explicit NSFW Content
The following always requires a Sexual nudity (18+) filter:
- Exposed primary sexual anatomy or clear nudity in any capacity.
- Sexual acts or explicit handling of intimate areas.
- Bodily fluids presented in a sexual or fetish context.
- Sex toys or sexual products, even when not in use.
- Manually censored content (black bars, stickers, blur). Censoring does not make content SFW.
- Strong visual emphasis on genitalia, nipples, or sexual features.
- Aroused or erect nipples, with stricter requirements for feminine-presenting bodies.
- Visible outlines of genitals through clothing (e.g., cameltoe or similar).
- Highly revealing lingerie, minimal-coverage clothing, or sexually focused poses.
Suggestive or Fetish-Adjacent Content
Not explicitly sexual, but sexualized enough to need a Sexually suggestive (18+) filter:
- Poses or framing that highlight intimate areas (breasts, buttocks, crotch).
- Clothing that strongly emphasizes anatomy through tightness, shading, or transparency. (This can include, but is not limited to, Bunny Suits, Lingerie, Bondage Gear, Micro Bikinis / Slings, etc.)
- Movements or expressions in animation implying sexual activity.
- Fetish-heavy focus (feet, armpits, exaggerated proportions, see below for more potentially suggestive themes to be aware of).
- Body pillows / dakimakuras with sensual or suggestive designs.
- Objects that are used euphemistically to stand in for sexual acts (eg. popsicles, soda cans).
Potentially Suggestive Themes
These themes may also require Sexually suggestive (18+) filters depending on context and intent:
- Feet with strong fetish emphasis (soles, deep detailing, steam).
- Armpits highlighted in a sexual or fetish-oriented pose.
- Mouth or maw-focused art tied to vore-like themes.
- Sweat, wetness, or fluids used in a sexually suggestive way.
- Fetishistic pregnancy depictions.
NSFL Content (Always filter, May be Prohibited)
NSFL (Not Safe For Life) includes graphic or severe distressing material that requires either or both Blood / gore and Violence filters:
- Graphic injuries, exposed organs, heavy blood or gore may be allowed with filtering, but extreme gore and realistic depictions of torture are strictly prohibited.
- Decapitation or realistic depictions of death may be allowed with filtering, but any content that incites violence is strictly prohibited.
- Self-harm, suicide, or attempts themes may be allowed with filtering, but any content that glorifies such themes is strictly prohibited.
Photo-Sensitive Content
Please tag Flashing / Epilepsy warning for considerations of those with visual sensitivities
- Photosensitive triggers (strobe effects, rapid flashing).
Audio-Sensitive Content
Please tag Other: Audio Sensitivity warning for considerations of those with audio sensitivities
- Audio that may induce harm (ear-piercing tones, extremely loud spikes).
Content that you're encouraged to tag
Common Phobia Triggers
Out of consideration for those with personal conditions, please consider tagging in your Other field:
- Trypophobia: cluster patterns intended to induce discomfort.
- Ommatophobia: multiple eyes or eye injury depicted realistically.
- Arachnophobia: realistic spiders (stylized or character-inspired are often okay).
- Ophidiophobia: realistic snakes (stylized or character-inspired are also usually okay).
Prohibited Content
The following categories are not permitted on the platform under any circumstances. These restrictions exist to ensure compliance with law, safety standards, and payment-processor requirements.
-
Loli / Underage Sexualization: Any depiction, real, stylized, cartoon, or fictional, that portrays a minor or minor-coded character in a sexual, suggestive, or fetishized manner. This includes characters who appear underage regardless of stated age.
Note: A flowchart will appear below this section to clarify how age and minor-coded traits are evaluated. - Self-harm depicted in a glamorizing or encouraging way: This includes stylized depictions intended to be "aesthetic," romanticized, or promotional.
- Non-consensual sexual content or themes.
- Sexual content involving animals or animal-like creatures presented as real animals.
- Extreme gore or realistic depictions of torture.
- Content created with the intent to disturb or shock in a harmful way (e.g., severe injuries shown for shock value).
- Any content illegal in the creator's or viewer's region, or that violates international child-safety standards.
