VGen Challenge is a monthly art contest open to all VGen Account holders. Winners are decided by community vote and receive 1 VGen Code!
What is VGen Challenge?
VGen Challenge is a monthly themed art contest where the community gets to participate, vote, and celebrate each other's work. Each month features a new theme, and winners are chosen by community vote.

Who can participate?
Anyone with a VGen Account can enter! You do not need an Artist+ Code to participate in the VGen Challenge.
Where are the Challenges?
As of December 2024, VGen Challenges are hosted directly on the VGen site. You can find them on the Challenge Page.
To get notified when a new Challenge drops, make sure you have the @VGen Challenge role enabled in our Discord server.
Why was my entry removed?
Entries may be removed for the following reasons:
Breach of Content Guidelines. The artwork you submit must be within our content guidelines. See our content guidelines for what's allowed and what needs tagging.
Not following the theme. Your entry must match the current month's theme.
- If viewers wouldn't be able to guess the theme from the submission alone, use the description to explain how your piece fits the theme, such as giving a bit of fandom lore. Entries where the connection to the theme is too indirect or minor may still be removed at the Event Staff's discretion.
No credits for fan art or external assets. If your entry includes fan art or uses external assets, you must credit the original source.
- Fan Art must be credited with the Character Name and Franchise/Owner Name, such as "Genie from VGen"
- External Assets (including pose/composition references and inspirations) must be credited with the Asset Name and Creator/Owner Name (or link), such as "VGen Logo by VGen"
- Credits like "Found on Pinterest" or crediting 3rd party reposters are not valid and will be removed; please research the origin of the asset and credit the original artist/user(s) accordingly.
- If a basemesh (e.g. CC4, ZBrush, etc.) was used, it must be explicitly stated
- If a specific asset store model or paid base was used, you must link to it
- Minor retexturing, simple accessory swaps, YCHs (including pre-existing services of their own) is not allowed; your creation must be unrecognizable as the base used
Incorrect category. Make sure you're submitting your entry under the right category for your media type.
Invalid date. Your entry must have been created within the eligible timeframe for the current Challenge.
Invalid social media post or link. The link you provide must go to a valid, public post on an allowed platform (see below). Examples:
- ✅ twitter.com/username/postURL
- ❌ twitter.com/username
Misuse of Challenges. Entries that exploit or misuse the Challenge system in any way may be removed at the staff's discretion. Some examples:
- Using challenge submissions as a way to sell products or services
- NOTE: After attaining artist access, you are allowed to add pieces created for a challenge to your portfolio
- Asking for votes/codes within the entry or within the description
- Submitting work on behalf of someone else OR submitting someone else's work (including commissioned work)
- NOTE: any "set" of pieces as an entry (eg overlays, comic panels, etc) should be uploaded as a collage or a singular "main" image to avoid being flagged for multiple entries.
Not being "no purchase necessary"
- Adoptables and P2U assets cannot be sold or be for sale during the Challenge, and you must wait until after the results to sell those assets.
What social media platforms are allowed?
When submitting your entry, you'll need to link to a public post on an approved platform. Here's what's currently accepted:
Illustration / Art platforms:
- Twitter / X
- Bluesky
- Cara
- DeviantArt
- Tumblr
Non-illustration platforms:
- YouTube
- SoundCloud
- Spotify
- Tapas
Can I edit my entry or upload a different one?
Yes! However, you must notify an Event Mod in our Discord server if you want to make changes (Self-Edit/Removal is not available yet). Please note that edits submitted after the 20th of the month are not guaranteed to be processed in time.
How does voting work? How are winners selected?
Voting is organized by category and media type. Anyone with a VGen Account can vote from the 1st through the 7th of the following month.
The top 10% of entries by vote count will win. VGen staff may also select Honourable Mentions for standout entries that didn't make the top 10%.
Can I ask people to vote for me?
No. You may not solicit votes in your entry, description, or elsewhere. Doing so may result in your entry being removed.
How will winners receive their Code?
Winners will receive their VGen Code via email. Honourable Mentions will receive Artist+ Dashboard Access directly on VGen (no code needed).
When will the results be announced?
Results are typically shared about a week after voting closes, around the 15th of the following month.
