In short, follow the instructions in the pink box below:
Click ⓘ to read what each standard license entails.
1. Turn on ALL the ways clients are allowed to use their commission - regardless of if the license is included in the base price or not!
Note on personal use
Regardless of whether you take personal commissions or only work with commercial clients, personal use is always included in base price because clients can always personally enjoy the work and create / distribute non-competing digital end products with others (ie. sending files to friend for review = OK vs sending files to friend so they can avoid buying their own version = competitive and NOT ok).
2. Add "Extra cost" where applicable
Note on mixing licenses with other add-ons
The order of operation of any add on pricing (license or add-on) is done from the top to bottom of your form.
This means if your % license extra cost applies to all the other add-ons in your form, then you should move your license question to the bottom of your request form. If it does NOT apply to any other add-ons, then you should keep it at the top of your request form.
3. Add "Custom" licenses
Add as many custom licenses as you'd like and set optional add-on pricing and details (ie. license terms) as you see fit!
Use custom licenses to top up existing standard licenses terms (see "PRO TIP: Use custom licenses to "top up" standard licenses" below) or set completely new ones (ie. Indie content, buyout) complete with their own license terms!
Note on license terms
While all written documents attached to your VGen request are legally binding, the more narrowly defined your definitions and terms are, the more they will hold up in legal proceedings in relevant circumstances.
Note on custom license discovery
These licenses will not be filterable in discovery, but will still be handy to help potential clients set expectations of what your allowed uses / commercial fees are~
PRO TIP: Use custom licenses to "top up" standard licenses
If you add a Custom license without adding extra cost, then these additional uses would also be included in your base price. For example, if profile picture is always included for both commercial or non-commercial clients, you could add "Profile picture" like the example below.
4. Add "Other" license options
Let potential clients tell you exactly what they're looking for if it's something different than your existing licenses!
Reminder that with Custom Proposals, the request is just the first step in understanding the client's needs - not what you're actually both agreeing to. Let this be the start of your discussions and send a final proposal with what you end up agreeing to whenever you're ready to move forward.
